Answers to some questions Condors’ parents/swimmers might have about the new Stroke Video+Analysis Clinics we are now offering…

Why are we using the name “SwimLens” and is it part of Condors… what’s the deal?

High level technique development has always been part of Condors’ main priorities. Technique monitoring and filming under and above water with multiple cameras, although still rare in the swimming world as a general practice, shows great potential to enhance the speed of learning for young swimmers.

SwimLens was started by Condors coaches, but established as a separate entity from Condors Swim Club mostly for insurance and sanctioning purposes.

What it all means:

  • Condors is now able to consistently offer periodic video analysis to swimmers from both locations
  • It can do so fully in compliance with Metropolitan LSC and USA Swimming insurance and sanctioning requirements
  • The “SwimLens Video+Analysis” service is an add-on optional service and the decision to participate is fully up to parents and swimmers. It is NOT required as club membership, in any way.
  • There is now clear separation between everyday swim practice/coaching and video analysis roles. Coaches can coach and extra in depth video and technique analysis is offered to those families/swimmers who want it, separately.
  • We can offer all this at a very low price point, while still covering the pool costs and time expenditure required to perform quality filming and analysis tasks. As a result video feedback becomes a more useful tool deployed consistently across seasons.

Just FYI: SwimLens was started and is run by coach Jaak from the Westchester location with the help of coach Jon. Clinics are separate from the occasional in-practice video monitoring, and serve a different purpose.

Participation & Frequency of Use

We recommend maximum of 2 times per year per swimmer, once during the short course season and once during the long course season. This periodic check-in can be extremely helpful, but there’s no need to do it more than twice a year.

Filming Process

During each clinic, swimmers are filmed swimming all four strokes using a multi-angle setup that records:

  • above-water views
  • underwater views
  • side and longitudinal perspectives

All angles are captured in the same swim to preserve timing and continuity.

Filming takes ~10-15 minutes per swimmer, and is done at Condors’ Westchester location.

After filming…?

Each participant (or their parents) receive digital delivery of edited videos (via Vimeo link) and a PDF written report with technique observations based on what’s seen in the videos. E-mail delivery normally takes 1 week or less.

Booking & Payment

Please book through the form above. For now, payments are due at the time of the clinics, in cash.
