SwimLens provides video-based stroke analysis clinics for competitive swimmers. The focus is on helping swimmers and families see and understand stroke mechanics through high-quality professional video and clear written analysis.
SwimLens is designed to complement—not replace—the work that already happens in regular team practice.
A Focus on Observation, Not Instruction
During a SwimLens clinic, swimmers are filmed swimming short, controlled distances of each stroke. That footage is later reviewed carefully, and a written analysis is prepared to explain what is visible in the video and why it matters.
There is no instruction given on deck, no drills prescribed, and no training plans provided. Coaching decisions and technical instruction remain fully with the swimmer’s team coach.
What SwimLens Is Designed to Do
SwimLens exists to help swimmers:
- See their own stroke from multiple angles
- Understand body position, timing, and movement patterns
- Develop a clearer visual reference for technique discussions
- Engage more thoughtfully with feedback from their coach
The goal is awareness and understanding, not immediate correction.
What SwimLens Is Not
To avoid confusion, it is equally important to clarify what SwimLens is not.
SwimLens is not:
- Coaching or private lessons
- On-deck instruction or correction
- A training or conditioning program
- A substitute for team practice
- A performance guarantee or evaluation service
SwimLens does not rank, compare, or assess swimmers competitively.
Compliance and Clinic Structure
SwimLens clinics are structured as sanctioned clinics hosted by USA Swimming–member clubs and are titled accordingly (for example, “SwimLens Stroke Analysis Clinic – Hosted by [Club Name]”). SwimLens provides the filming and analysis service, while the host club sponsors the clinic for sanctioning and insurance purposes. This structure ensures proper coverage, Safe Sport compliance, and clear roles for all involved.
Who Can Attend
SwimLens clinics are open to any USA Swimming–registered athlete, regardless of home club or LSC. Swimmers from Connecticut, New Jersey, and other LSCs are welcome to attend, subject to clinic availability and host club policies.
Some sessions may be designated as club-only, while others are open to swimmers from all clubs.
Where SwimLens Operates
SwimLens primarily operates within the Metropolitan LSC footprint, with most clinics taking place in the New York City vicinity and Westchester area. Clinics are hosted at approved facilities through local swim clubs.
While the majority of sessions occur within Metro, SwimLens may operate at other locations depending on pool access and demand.
How Clinics Fit Into a Training Year
SwimLens clinics are intended to be used periodically, not continuously.
For most swimmers, one session per season—often once during short course and once during long course—is sufficient. This allows swimmers to revisit technique with fresh eyes at natural transition points in the training year.
Additional sessions may be appropriate in specific situations and are generally coordinated with the swimmer’s coach.y.
Age Focus and Readiness
SwimLens clinics are primarily designed for competitive age-group swimmers, typically in the 10–16 age range.
Participation outside this range may be appropriate depending on swimmer readiness, comfort in the water, and competitive experience. Age alone does not determine suitability; developmental readiness and the ability to swim comfortably in a structured filming environment are more important.
SwimLens does not rank, compare, or assess swimmers competitively.
How SwimLens Supports Coaches
SwimLens is built around a coach-first philosophy.
- All technical authority remains with the team coach
- Clinics are optional and supplemental
- Analysis is descriptive, not prescriptive
- Coaches may choose how—or whether—to use the material
Many coaches find video analysis useful as a shared visual reference, but SwimLens does not dictate how the information should be applied.
Professional Standards
SwimLens clinics are conducted in accordance with:
- USA Swimming clinic sanctioning requirements
- Safe Sport guidelines
- Open and observable environment standards
SwimLens is operated by a USA Swimming–certified coach, and all sessions prioritize swimmer safety, transparency, and professionalism.
Filming Equipment & Setup
SwimLens uses a custom-built filming setup designed specifically for swimming analysis. Each session captures swimmers above and below the water from multiple angles simultaneously, allowing movements to be viewed in context and from consistent perspectives.
The setup is designed to capture natural swimming, without repeated passes or staged positioning.
A Thoughtful, Limited Tool
SwimLens is intentionally narrow in scope.
By focusing on short, well-defined clinics rather than ongoing instruction, SwimLens aims to provide a high-quality experience that fits naturally within a swimmer’s broader development—without adding pressure, noise, or conflicting messages.
